Photonics Research Labs granted with a Proof of Concept ERC grant that supports technology transfer into iPronics.

Published June 16, 2019

The European Research Council, set up by the EU in 2007, is the premiere European funding organisation for excellent research. Every year, it funds the very best and most creative European-based researchers of any nationality and age group. The ERC offers four core grant schemes: Starting, Consolidator, Advanced and Synergy Grants. With its additional Proof of Concept grant scheme, the ERC helps grantees to bridge the gap between their pioneering research and early phases of its commercialisation.

ERC grant holders receive top-up funding to explore the commercial or innovation potential of the results of their EU-funded frontier research or conduct technical validation.

First public funding supporting the first programmable photonics company in the world.

With this 18-month grant, the Photonics Research Labs aims to validate their pioneer work in programmable photonic integrated circuits and their recent advances derived from ERC-2016-Advanced grant UMWPCHIP.
