iPronics, together with Lumentum, will lead the newly created OCS sub-project under the Open Compute Project (OCP) in the framework of the Networking Project. This initiative brings together some of the most important companies in the technology sector, including Google, Microsoft, Coherent Corp., and other prominent players, with the aim of accelerating the adoption of open, scalable, and high-performance optical technologies.

OCS represents a significant shift in network management and optimization by enabling considerable improvements in the capacity, efficiency, and flexibility of data centers. The goal of this subproject is to establish common technical principles and standards to help manufacturers, developers, and end users transition toward more open, interoperable, and future-ready network architectures.

The main areas of work include:

  • Defining communication requirements between OCS systems and SDN (Software-Defined Networking) controllers to ensure effective and secure interaction.
  • Developing advanced data and telemetry models for precise monitoring and control of network status and performance.
  • Designing a unified SDN integration layer for OCS software to simplify infrastructure management and orchestration.
  • Conducting network-level demonstrations showcasing real-world use cases of OCS-SDN integration in operational environments.

Through this leadership, iPronics reaffirms its commitment to innovation in programmable optical networks and its support for open technology, providing the community with the necessary tools to face the technological challenges of the next decade.

The collaboration with leading companies and standardization bodies ensures a direct impact on the industry, benefiting both large data centers and strategic applications linked to artificial intelligence and high-performance computing.

At iPronics, we continue working to establish Optical Circuit Switching as a key element in the evolution of modern networks, contributing to a more efficient, scalable ecosystem prepared for future technological challenges.
